The enshrouded island of rabbits

The harmony of earthy petrichor and fresh fish roasting
The mud and the moss, the clover, the fungi
The berries on the trees

The sights and the smells
Across the plain, over the fells
Tiny flowers and sweeping forests
There is no wrong path to take
To simply be here means
To tread the right path

Through a hall of a thousand trees
Over mountains cold and caverns deep
See
What no eyes have seen before
Much to learn, much to explore

How many lost souls tread this Earth?
Blind to the beauty of the humble birch
Believers of lies, minds and bodies weak
Shrouded from the wonder of reality

Do the cattle marvel as they graze?
At the droplets on the leaves, the reflections in the lake
Does the bird, when he soars, see the forest through the trees?
The few who know are doomed to wander

Why have I forgotten
How to fly through frostbitten winds
With a cloak of ancient memories
And view the snows below?

How tragic it is
To lose one’s wings
Were they stolen away?
Or concealed by the cruel sands of time?

Clouds cover the evening sky
The amaranth wilts and dies

Eyes too old to see
Through windy moors of memory
Skyborne reveries

Oh, how I wish to fly above
And greet the pale aurora bright
Soar high above a plain of autumnal abyss

A nightingale in a golden cage
As I tread this maze of time
Skyborne I lived, and skybound I’ll die
